What is IES exam?
IES exam stands for Indian Engineering Services exam. The entrance exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the posts of Indian Engineering Service. IES are the technical services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the government of India. The middle management positions in the bureaucracy are filled through competitive exams. Large number of people take these exams competing for limited seats.It is considered to be one of the toughest exams due to the limited number of seats available.
IES exam 2013 Paper Pattern :-
There are objective as well as subjective papers. One paper for GS (General Studies) is part of the assessment system apart from the engineering subject of the candidate. The entire technical subject is divided into two papers (PAPER 1 and PAPER 2). There is a three day schedule of the written examination, comprising in all five written examination. This exam is of 2 hrs duration and each Paper is maximum of 200 marks.
IES exam 2013 Eligiblity:-
Candidate must hold a degree in Engineering or equivalent. Provided that a candidate applying for the posts of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Engineer Group A in Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing/Monitoring Organisation may possess M.Sc. Degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject. Candidates who qualify on the results of the written part of the examination will be summoned for personality test.

Where To Get The Application Form :-
Students have to apply online by logging on to the official website. Only those candidates who are in remote difficult areas can apply offline. Those who wants to apply Offline, must apply in the Common Application Form which can be purchased from the designated Post Officers throughout the country by paying cash Rs.20. This offline application must reach the "Controller of Examinations, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069" either by hand or by Post/Speed Post/ Courier on or before the Feb 14, 2011.
