About IAS Exam?
IAS Exam is the administrative civil service exam of the Government of India. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the exam every year. Civil Services Examination is also known as IAS examination. One survey conducted on Indian Civil Services Exam revealed that it is the second most difficult exam only after French Civil Services test. The preliminary examination which is held to select candidates for the next round mains will be replaced by Civil Services Aptitude Test. The new test CSAT will no longer focus on testing the subject knowledge and awareness. The new format emphasizes more on judging the mental ability of the candidate instead of subject knowledge. There will be two common papers of 200 marks each in CSAT. Each paper will be of two hours duration. The papers will be objective type and will focus on aptitude skills and ethical and moral dimensions of decision making. All students will have the same questions irrespective of their educational background. Every year more than two lakh students appear for IAS exam.
IAS 2013 Exam Date:-
Registration date : 5th March to 4th April 2013
Preliminary Examination : 26th May 2013
Main Examination : 8th November 2013
IAS 2013 Paper Pattern:-
The prelims are held around May -June. It has objective i.e. multiple choice questions. There are two papers (duration of each being 2 hrs).
i. General studies
ii. Optional subject
The main written exam mostly takes place in Oct-Nov. There are a total of 9 papers in all. Duration of each paper is 3 hours.
Language: one of the Indian languages, English, Essay GK and Current Affairs: 2 papers on general studies Optionals: papers from two subjects that fall in optional-1 and two papers from optional-2 (a choice of subjects is listed by the UPSC in the prospectus) Candidates who are successful in the main examinations are eligible for an interview which plays a crucial part in the selection.

1. Age Limit:-
21-30 years as on 1/8/2013
2. Educational Qualifications:-
Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification.
3. No. of permissible attempts :- Four (Seven attemps of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs.
